The Food and Drug Administration has issued new rules to ensure that consumers know the FDA considers all ingredients in their personal care products safe.
The FDA on Tuesday issued the proposed regulations, which include requirements to:1.
Provide consumers with information on all FDA-approved ingredients, including those found in cosmetics, food, or beverages.2.
Identify all ingredients that are manufactured from renewable resources, including natural or synthetic materials.3.
Provide an overview of ingredients that may be used to manufacture cosmetic products.4.
Provide information about FDA-regulated health products that may contain non-HIV-specific ingredients, such as vitamin C and Vitamin E.5.
Provide a summary of FDA-licensed products, including safety information and potential risks.6.
Describe FDA-certified products by brand name, brand, or product name, including the name of the ingredient.7.
Include a list of FDA approved health products containing at least 50% of the following ingredients: fragrance, coloring, perfume, toner, sunscreen, hair color, fragrance, toning, or hair care.8.
Provide detailed information on the ingredients of FDA licensed products.9.
Provide safety information about the ingredients used in FDA-labeled products.10.
Provide directions on the labeling of products.11.
Provide instructions on the use of non-prescription drugs and alcohol.12.
Provide additional information on safety of cosmetics and personal care ingredients, as well as health and safety precautions, as needed.
